“Individual commitment to a group effort -- that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.”
-Vince Lombardi

We hope everyone gets to relax for a few days during our vacation next week. Please remember, that to ensure we have some time off for summer, we will be in school on Thursday and Friday of this coming week. The busing information is on the front page of the Flash.

The Scholastic Book Fair returns at the end of next week, and will be open all week after vacation.

Our sophomores return tonight from their long-awaited NYC adventure and research trip. See the Flash for some of the first photos they have sent us.

Please take some time to go through the Flash with your students to make sure they are aware of all the opportunities around them at Sizer. Have a great couple of days, and we’ll see you back here on THURSDAY.

“Each person has inside a basic decency and goodness. If he listens to it and acts on it, he is giving a great deal of what it is the world needs most. It is not complicated but it takes courage. It takes courage for a person to listen to his own good”

-Pablo Casals

Is this what spring looks like? Oh well, we’ll appreciate it so much more when it does get here. Meanwhile..

Tonight is our House of the Rising Stars cabaret night to benefit the PTSO Scholarship fund. We are expecting alumna Brianna Tuttle, the victor in last year’s HOTRS lip synch battle, to return to us tonight to open the show battling this year’s tenth-grade battle champ Holland, and wellness teacher Mr. Prescott. We will have singers, a dancer, musicians, and a performance from our excellent Sizer School chorus under the direction of Mrs. Alyson Cordio. And there’ll be a performing pooch! We hope to see everyone here to support our performers, who are supporting our graduating seniors.
*Can’t make it home and then to school on time? Then come straight here and buy some pizza in the lobby before the show!

Tuesday everyone is invited to meet the finalist for the open Instructional Leader position. Please see the Flash for details and the schedule.

And since you’ll be in the area Tuesday…the prom committee is sponsoring a “doughraiser” at the Uno’s restaurant in Leominster. It’s all day, dine-in or take-out; just be sure to bring a coupon when you pay! Details in the Flash.

Best wishes and happy traveling to our sophomore class, who are heading on their long-awaited trip to NYC. We can’t wait to see the pictures!

Have a great weekend, and we’ll see you all on Monday.

The happiness of a man in this life does not consist in the absence but in the mastery of his passions.

-Alfred Lord Tennyson

Thank you to all the families and other supportive adults who have helped our students come in on time, rested, and ready to do their best on the testing taking place. We have more to go; please check the schedule every week for any updates.

Testing isn’t the only thing going on around Sizer! Here are a few of the important events happening this next week:

• Monday, Enchanted Masquerade Junior/Senior Prom tickets are on sale

• Tuesday is Senior Project Product Night, all are welcome!

• Wednesday is a half-day for students, they will be dismissed at noon. No supervision is available after school.

• Wednesday night is the mandatory meeting for families (and students) of students going on the New York City trip.

• Wednesday afternoon our track & field and lacrosse teams have away games

• Friday night is our annual House of the Rising Stars Cabaret Night, our only fundraiser that benefits the PTSO scholarship fund

If you’re the parent of an eighth-grader, ask them about the penny war going in, proceeds of which will help the class go on an excellent field trip in the spring. We’ll have more details for all in next week’s Flash.

Have a great weekend, and we’ll see you on Monday.

Over the last couple of decades, the personalization of the office changed dramatically... there's an informality people often take for the absence of rules - which it's not.

Judith Martin (Miss Manners)

This coming week, students will start taking the state-wide assessments, PARCC and MCAS. It is especially important that students are here on the day their grade is testing. We have included a schedule on the front page of the Flash for your convenience. Students were given paper copies today also.

We start the testing on Monday with ninth graders. Please be sure your student gets plenty of rest, eats a good breakfast before school, brings a clear bottle of water, and has something to read if they finish testing early.
The calendar says it’s spring…let’s hope Mother Nature has a calendar!

Have a great weekend, and we’ll see you all on Monday.
