This week the 7th Grade Health Classes finished up a discussion on gender roles in society - their project was to create a toy that challenged those stereotypes! The students showcased amazing work and creativity with toys like Space Explorer Barbie, Marine Barbie, Hospital Nurse Ken, and Dojo Diva Doll. The students went above and beyond expectations, creating tiny accessories for their toys and showing how their projects were different from other toys on the market. We think Mattel - barbie's creater - should look to our students for their next toy ideas.
In addition to creating their toys every student wrote a response paper and also rehearsed a 30-second "commercial" that they performed in front of the class. This project challenged students to think innovatively about marketing and media, as well as expanding their public speaking comfort zone.
What an inspiring project from some of our youngest students!
In May of each year, the Sizer School Friday Flash, will ask for nominations to fill open positions on the Sizer School Board of Trustees; one parent representative and one staff representative.
The elections for the positions will take place during Portfolio Days in June (2 days). Following this election, the Friday Flash will announce our new Board Members.
There are 2 Teacher and 2 Parent Representatives that hold a 2-year term. Each year an 1 Teacher and 1 Parent will run to replace an "outgoing" Teacher / Parent. (The maximum number of terms either represenative can run for is two, so there could be an "incumbent" represenative). Terms will run from Oct. 1 of that year through Sept. 30th 2 years later.
If you are interested in becoming a Sizer School Board of Trustee Member or if you are interested in sitting on a Sizer School Board of Trustee Committee as a non-Board Member, please contact Janet O'Hara, Board Staff Liaison (firstname.lastname@example.org / (978)345-2701 ext 406).
"One voice can change a room. And if one voice can change a room, then it can change a city. And if it can change a city, it can change a state. And if it can change a state, it can change a nation, and if it can change a nation, it can change the world. Your voice can change the world."
It's another beautiful Friday, with a good forecast for the weekend!
Next Friday, advisories will hold elections for representatives for the Sizer School Student Council. Does your student know what will make a good representative? Are they willing to use their voice to bring positive change to their school? We are looking forward to working with a student government to help make Sizer School the best it can be.
The front page of the Flash features a message from Mr. Perrigo, and the Flash is full of information on class, school and community events. See page 8 to find out why teachers were encouraging some students to toss objects over the balcony-all in the name of science!
We look forward to seeing many of our Div. I students at fun night tonight (we're playing Human Hungry Hungry Hippo), and we'll see the rest of you on Monday.
