Creative Writing Site Launched

Ms. Ingraham's Creative Writing class from this past second semester, consisting of students from grades 9-12,  is proud to announce the launching of its very own website. Thanks to the initiative and skill of Jaline Tessier, a graduating senior, the site presents examples of writing from each student along with bio blurbs and some photos, too.  You will see green tabs at the top for the various pages on the site.  Please check it out and enjoy!

The following link will take you to an external web site. North Central Charter Essential School cannot be held liable for the contents of external web sites.

SIZER Building Safety is a Priority

Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA)

Annual Update Letter

Dear Sizer Community Members,

I am writing to share important information about our current school building.  Sizer School, A North Central Charter Essential School is following state and federal guidelines to keep the space we work and learn in as safe as possible for all members of our community.

On October 22, 1986, President Reagan signed into law an amendment to the Toxic Substance Control Act requiring schools to determine the presence of asbestos containing building materials in all school buildings.  That amendment, called the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) required that all school buildings be visually inspected by accredited inspectors and that bulk samples of suspected materials be taken where the material was not assumed to be asbestos.  It further required that management plans be created for each individual building and that the training must be completed by July 9, 1989.  This document is the Asbestos Management Plan, which provides the means and the methods to effectively deal with asbestos containing building materials.

All phases of asbestos inspection and management planning are reported in this plan including:

     1) The architect statement

     2) Designated person statement

     3) Dated copies of annual notification.

The plan has an additional function as a reporting document to that State.  At the local level, the plan must be made available for general review by the school district.

The AHERA management plan for Sizer School, A North Central Charter Essential School is complete. The school is up to date with all inspections.  As certified by the project architect of this building, there are no products that might were specified or used during construction of the new building.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call me or Bob Briggs, Facilities Director, ADP  at (978) 345-2701 (ext 410).  A copy of the AHERA plan for the school can be found on our website, www.sizerschool.org  under Resources, Family Resources, and finally Building Safety) or obtained and reviewed at the Sizer School.

Sincerely,

Courtney Harter

Block-End Notes About the PowerSchool Portal

The Parent/Student Portal is a real-time system, which means that assignment grades are visible as soon as they are entered by a teacher. This has several advantages and a few disadvantages. I want to outline the disadvantages so that all users have a clear idea of the limits of the site:

  1. Grades on the site are subject to change and not to be considered official.
  2. Cumulative grades may be misleading before the grading term is closed. This can be due to assignment weighting and calculation configurations that aren’t visible on the site.
  3. Block and semester grades should not be considered accurate at the end date of the term. There is a grading period of approximately a week between the last day of a term and the close of grades for that term. This gives teachers time to thoughtfully complete grades for assignments that fell toward the end of the term.
